Vintage A.J. Reach, Wright & Ditson “Autograph” wooden tennis racquet, 1939. (very) scarce
AJ Reach & Co., Philadelphia, PA
In the 1930’s the Reach name appeared together with the Wright & Dotson name. Both. I pained at that time belonged to the Spalding group.
AJ Reach founded a Sporting Goods Company to produce baseballs and tennis rackets in the 1879’s. He was a professional Baseball Player in Philadelphia. Acquired by Spalding in 1891. Slogan in early days: “The sign of Quality”
This racquet is in exquisite shape.
Absolutely straight. All decals and shoulder and handle wrappings are in excellent condition.
This model was produced in 1939 and features a leather grip (original)
The original strings (Silk strung) and treblings are in place
